Didi Ekanem

"I just wish people would focus more on my talent than my bum"

Didi Ekanem is a fast and upcoming actress. In a recent interview with Vanguard Newspaper, the 'Jump and Pass' actress talks her curves, Nollywood and sex roles.
According to Didi, she would love for people to view her as a talented person and not just as a sexy person. Read excerpts from interview;
What can you or cannot do in interpreting a role?
First of all, my job is to act. So, I am supposed to be able to play every character. I can do a sex scene but of course, you know that it’s not like you’re going to have sex for real, probably just take off some part of your clothing and just act it. As an actor, I have to play every role; I can do a sex scene. I can play as a lesbian, in fact I have a movie that I played as a lesbian and I played it so well
Did you kiss somebody in it?

Yes of course, I did everything a lesbian would do. That’s me being an actor.
Can you let a guy grab your bum in a movie?

Of course, in Jump and Pass, a guy tapped my ass. If it has to be real, there’s nothing there, it’s just grabbing my bum.
How do you feel having one of the biggest bums in Nollywood?

It’s a good feeling and a wonderful one. But I won’t lie to you, as much as I love it so much, I just wish people would focus more on my talent than my bum.
All the concentration out there is on my bum not my talent. I would honestly wish people to see me as a talented actress not a sexy one. But my bum is not allowing people to see me deep down, to see the person and the talent.

Misplaced Justice

Osun court sentence two men to death for stealing fowls, eggs

For stealing fowls, eggs and vegetable oil, two men have been sentenced to death in Osun State.
In a country where anything and everything can happen, an Osun State High Court presided over by Justice Jide Falola, has sentenced two men to death for stealing fowls and eggs.
The two convicts, Olowookere Segun and Morakinyo Sunday, according to the evidence before the court, were found guilty of forcefully breaking into the house of one Balogun Tope, a police officer attached to Divisional Police headquarters, Okuku, in the state, in April 2010 and carting away some of his belongings including his fowls and eggs laid by the chickens.
The convicted men were charged with conspiracy, robbery and stealing contrary to Section 6(b) and 1(2)(a) of Robbery and Firearm (Special Provisions) Act, cap R 11 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and Section (390)(1) Criminal Code Law, Cap 34, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The prosecution team, led by the state Solicitor-General, Mrs Abiola Adewemimo, called six witnesses and tendered several exhibits during the prosecution.
The prosecution told the court that on November 13, 2010, men were sighted around Balogun’s home armed with cutlass and a dane gun, and that while two of them were arrested, others escaped.
The convicts were said to have confessed that they stole the complainant’s fowls, adding that they had been in his house before to steal.
The prosecution stated that apart from the police man the convicts stole from, they had also robbed another woman of kegs of vegetable oil, eggs and broilers.
"They also stated that they had earlier robbed one Alhaja Umani Oyewo in her house and stole broilers, eggs and kegs of vegetable oil from the house."
Delivering judgement, Justice Falola convicted the men on only three counts: to death for conspiracy; life sentence for robbery, and three years imprisonment for stealing.
Justice Falola recommended that the governor can decide to commute the death sentence to 10 years imprisonment, considering the convicts’ ages.

Ladies Only

3 ways to know if he is the right man for you

Being careful and cautious about letting him into your life and heart will allow you to keep the bad guys out, leaving room for the good guys who deserve a real chance.
It can be really hard to tell if a guy is for real when you just meet him or after going on a few dates with him. Well, have no fear, because there are a few traits to help you understand whether he's the real deal.
So what are the ultimate traits of a good guy? He is honest, kind, and reliable. If a man has these three traits, he will be successful in each of the areas discussed below.
Being careful and cautious about letting him into your life and heart will allow you to keep the bad guys out, leaving room for the good guys who deserve a real chance.
1. Work history: Hands down, one of the most important factors in determining the quality and character of a guy has to do with his work history. If you want a drama-free romantic future, start with a guy who has a job and knows how to hold onto it. In fact, going to school — undergrad, graduate, or vocational — can count as a job, too, because it shows that he's committed to getting educated and finding a job that suits him. Sure, some men may be out of work because of the down economy, so don't hold that against them. What you do want to see with such men, however, is persistence in finding another one. You don’t need to complicate your life by taking care of and providing for a grown man!

Questions to ask: Many men hate the job question ("What do you do for a living?"), because they fear that women are trying to figure out how much money they make. Rather than ask him what he does for a living, ask him if he likes the work he does or if he's been in the same job for a long time. Get a sense of whether he likes his job and gets along well with his co-workers. Ask him how he ended up at his job or developed interest in his line of work. A man who is stable at work is often stable in the rest of his life, too.
2. Relationship with his family: Most people mistakenly believe that a good guy has good relationships with his parents and siblings, but what happens if his parents and/or siblings are a little nuts, and he's decided to detach from them a bit to save his own sanity? The truth is that family dynamics are complicated, so don't judge him too quickly by his relationship with his family.
Questions to ask: Ask, "What's your relationship like with your mom and dad?" or "How often do you get together?" If there is an upcoming holiday, ask if he is choosing to spend it with extended family. If he's not, ask him why and listen closely to his response. You want to sense that a man cares about his parents and siblings, and that he makes an effort to sustain or improve those relationships. Judging a man by the relationships he has with his family of origin is often — but not always — a good measure of what kind of man he is.
3. Relationships with friends: The friends a man chooses to have in his life tell you a lot about him. In addition, the kinds of activities he engages in with friends says even more about him. For example, does he tend to hang out at a sports bar with his buddies, or does he prefer a game of tennis at the local park? Is he someone who tends to like to hang out with just one or two buddies, or does he like the action of larger groups which offer more stimulation?
Questions to ask: Ask, "How many days each week do you like to get together with your buddies?" Prompting him this way ("How many days…”) as opposed to more generally (“Do you like to hang out with your buddies?") will result in getting a more accurate response. You can also ask him what he and his buddies do when they're together. Finally, a great measure of a good guy is having friends and carrying on those friendships for many years. Ask, "Where do you know [insert name] from? Do you still talk to people from high school?" A good guy will usually still talk to at least one good friend from high school, because good guys are loyal and committed to the people they care about.
If you like your new guy's friends, proceed; if you don't, seriously consider ending the relationship. Figuring out whether a guy is a truly good person or just one who says he is is not a simple endeavor. In fact, it takes talking to a man over a long period to determine who he is and whether he is a good match for you. But focusing on the three areas above will give you a constructive starting point. As you get to know him, talk about him to your friends so you can hear their feedback. Sometimes friends make the best dating coaches!

When asked how she was dealing with being single again, the Young Money rapper said; “You know what's
funny
, I've never been single for the 15 years of my life I don't even know if I'm single now either which is weird too.

In the interview with Angie Martinez, Nicki had nothing but sweet word for ex. “This is not someone I picked off the street; this is someone I grew up with. I don't even know how I'm going to function without this person. I've never lived my life as a famous person without this person so I don't really know how to function. Anything I say about him is with love because right now I call my girlfriends, ask them stuffs but sometimes I just want to call him and ask him of his opinions,” Nicki said before getting emotional which led to her host Angie Martinez handing her a tissue to wipe her teary eyes.
Nicki Minaj however shut down any chances of getting back together with her ex, insisting that she is happier now. “I think I’m beyond that point because I have found so much peace now and I don’t want to go back to how I was feeling, but I don’t know what life holds, I don’t know what the future will bring. What will be will be, but I am a lot happier because being attached to someone is unhealthy,” Nicki Minaj said.
She also denied being in a relationship with rapper Meek Mill, which has made the rounds in the news recently. “Meek is just my friend,” Nicki said.

At 37, Henry has retired from football and would return to London to become the face of Sky Television
Having said goodbye to former teammates at MLS club, New York Red Bulls last week, the 37 year-old finally called it quits with football today, Tuesday
There had been ripe speculations that Henry might join another club in a player capacity after he revealed he had played his last for Red Bulls in domestic game against New England Revolution amidst calls that he would return to Arsenal later in the future but in a managerial role.
The 1998 World Cup winner instead would join British media, Sky Television on a multi-million pound deal to become the brand face and pundit on Sky Sports.
Henry who grew from the ranks of AS Monaco as a youngster to become one of the best strikers in the world to win numerous glories individually, with club and country in a career spanning 20 years; is Arsenal and France's leading goal scorer till date with 228 goals and 51 respectively.
He won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with the Gunners, where he played between 1999 and 2007.
“The decision was not too hard to be honest.
“It is hard to leave the game you love and everything you used to do on a daily basis. But I am pleased with what I’ve done and I’ve got no regrets. Things happen for a reason. It’s hard and not hard.
“I love the game and I still think I can give a lot to the game. I’m retiring and I’m not yet involved with any team. In the meantime, I can give back to the game on TV and make people understand some stuff they maybe don’t already. The job of an analyst is to make people understand in a simple way what the game means. It will be our job to make sure we bring the game closer to people.”
Adding that,"It has been an incredible journey.''
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has not put away the thought that Henry may return to the club where he helped build through a succesful period.
"You kind of never leave Arsenal. How many comebacks do you make? At one point it will turn out to be a bad move. We all love the first Rocky but I'm not too sure about the last one,'' he answered while been quizzed about a return to the Gunners.
“I don’t know if I can be a good coach or not, but the desire is there.
“We’ll see. Just because you can play the game doesn’t mean you can teach it - dealing with egos and lifting people,'' Henry said regarding his coaching ambition.
Leaving Arsenal in 2009, he played in Barcelona where he won the Champions League and he shared words of gratitude with former employers
"I would like to thank all the fans, team-mates and individuals involved with AS Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal FC, FC Barcelona, the New York Red Bulls and of course the French national team that have made my time in the game so special.
"I have had some amazing memories (mostly good!) and a wonderful experience.
"I hope you have enjoyed watching as much as I have enjoyed taking part.

The scientists gathered data from about 1.3 million women who were mostly white and between the ages 50 to 64 and noticed a pattern among those who had started their periods at age ten or younger, or 17 or older.
The women were studied for more than 10 years and the two specified groups had a 27 percent increased risk of hospitalizations or death due to heart disease.
Dexter Canoy, the lead author of the study and cardiovascular epidemiologist at the University of Oxford's Cancer Epidemiology Unit stated that there is a strong correlation between the age of menarche, when a woman's first period occurs, and heart disease and stroke risk.

Wizkid, Davido

Pop stars spotted partying in Lagos nightclub

Seems like Nigeria's two biggest young Pop stars have buried their hatchet and are we very happy!
Davido and Wizkid have kissed and made up - will we have that collabo soon?
The Pop stars were photographed hanging out at Escape night club which held a re-launch party on Saturday, December 11, 2013.
From the looks of the photos, it sure seems like the youngsters are back as friends again.
2014 saw Davido and Wizkid in back and forth controversy after the former accused the later of 'throwing shade' at him.
It was also a big year for O.B.O and StarBoy as they toured in and outside Nigeria; Davido won four 'African Artiste of the Year' awards while Wizkid released his long awaited sophomore album 'Joy'.

Maheeda

Sex Goddess wants to have sex with President Jonathan

Maheeda is dreaming of sleeping with President Goodluck Jonathan!
We will never stop hearing and amazing at what Naija Bad Girl, Caroline Sam, aka Maheeda, would say or do anytime she feels like. She has told anyone who cares to listen that she owes no one any apology on what she puts out on her social media sites, as long as it pleases her.
Few months ago, she created a storm when she said she would like to sleep with hip hop singer, Davido and even go ahead to make a video of it.
In the same breath, she has said several times that even though she is married, she can sleep with any man who could pay her good money.
So last night, she took to Twitter and confessed that she would love to have sex with President Goodluck Jonathan so she could also share in the national cake, only that her status as a married woman is stopping her from achieving that for now.
See what she wrote:
'I'm married oh eh ehn! So I wont f*** another man.. Shm! But if not, Na president I for like f*** collect federal money! Yep! I tweet am!'
Well, only time will tell if she can actually snuggle into a bed with Mr. President.

Ugandan Maid Update

Nanny sentenced to 4 years in prison for assaulting toddler

Jolly Tumuhiirwe has been sentenced to four years in jail for child abuse of a toddler that was left in her care.
The Ugandan maid, Jolly Tumuhiirwe, who was caught with a hidden
camera
violently assaulting a toddler, has been sentenced to four years in prison by a Kenyan Magistrate Court.
Jolly Tumuhiire was caught last month violently assaulting a toddler who was left in her care. The suspecting father of the baby installed a secret camera which caught Jolly Tumuhiirwe force feeding the baby and violently beating and kicking her afterwards.
Jolly Tumuhiirwe was arrested and charged to court with child abuse and torture. She last week pleaded guilty and sought the forgiveness of the toddler’s parents in court and the charge was later reduced to abuse to which she also pleaded guilty to.
Chief Magistrate Lillian Buchan on Monday, December 15 sentenced her to four years in prison as she said that Tumuhiirwe had committed an "unjustifiable and inexcusable crime."
Jolly Tumuhiirwe was given a four-year sentence due to the "ruthlessness exhibited on an innocent and helpless child."

Wole Soyinka

Read what Nobel Laureate wrote about Buhari in 2007

Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka in a piece written 7 years ago, spoke about “the crimes of Buhari” and why he should not be elected President of Nigeria.
Former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari has been chosen to represent the All Progressives Congress (APC) as its presidential candidate for the 2015 elections.
However, Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, in a piece written 7 years ago, spoke about “the crimes of Buhari” and why he should not be elected President of Nigeria.
Read the full article, as published by Sahara Reporters on January 14, 2007, below:
This intervention has been provoked, not so much by the ambitions of General Buhari to return to power at the head of a democratic Nigeria, as by declarations of support from directions that leave one totally dumbfounded.
It would appear that some, myself among them, had been overcomplacent about the magnitude of an ambition that seemed as preposterous as the late effort of General Ibrahim Babangida to aspire yet again to the honour of presiding over a society that truly seeks a democratic future.
What one had dismissed was a rash of illusions, brought about by other political improbabilities that surround us, however, is being given an air of plausibility by individuals and groupings to which one had earlier attributed a sense of relevance of historic actualities.
Recently, I published an article in the media, invoking the possible recourse to psychiatric explanation for some of the incongruities in conduct within national leadership. Now, to tell the truth, I have begun to seriously address the issue of which section of society requires the services of a psychiatrist.
The contest for a seizure of rationality is now so polarized that I am quite reconciled to the fact it could be those of us on this side, not the opposing school of thought that ought to declare ourselves candidates for a lunatic asylum. So be it. While that decision hangs in the balance however, the forum is open. Let both sides continue to address our cases to the electorate, but also prepare to submit ourselves for psychiatric examination.
The time being so close to electoral decision, we can understand the haste of some to resort to shortcuts. In the process however, we should not commit the error of opening the political space to any alternative whose curative touch to national afflictions have proven  more deadly than the disease.
In order to reduce the clutter in our options towards the forthcoming elections, we urge a beginning from what we do know, what we have undergone, what millions can verify, what can be sustained by evidence accessible even to the school pupil, the street hawker or a just-come visitor from outer space.
Leaving Buhari aside for now, I propose a commencing exercise that should guide us along the path of elimination as we examine the existing register of would-be president. That initial exercise can be summed up in the following speculation: “If it were possible for Olusegun Obasanjo, the actual incumbent, to stand again for election, would you vote for him?”
If the answer is “yes”, then of course all discussion is at an end. If the answer is ‘No’ however, then it follows that a choice of a successor made by Obasanjo should be assessed as hovering between extremely dangerous and an outright kiss of death.
The degree of acceptability of such a candidate should also be inversely proportionate to the passion with which he or she is promoted by the would-be ‘godfather’. We do not lack for open evidence about Obasanjo’s passion in this respect.
From Lagos to the USA, he has taken great pains to assure the nation and the world that the anointed NPN presidential flag bearer is guaranteed, in his judgment, to carry out his policies. Such an endorsement/anointment is more than sufficient, in my view, for public acceptance or rejection. Yar’Adua’s candidature amounts to a terminal kiss from a moribund regime.
Nothing against the person of this – I am informed - personable governor, but let him understand that in addition to the direct source of his emergence, the PDP, on whose platform he stands, represents the most harrowing of this nation’s nightmares over and beyond even the horrors of the Abacha regime.
If he wishes to be considered on his own merit, now is time for him, as well as others similarly enmeshed, to exercise the moral courage that goes with his repudiation of that party, a dissociation from its past, and a pledge to reverse its menacing future.
We shall find him an alternative platform on which to stand, and then have him present his credentials along those of other candidates engaged in forging a credible opposition alliance. Until then, let us bury this particular proposition and move on to a far graver, looming danger, personified in the history of General Buhari.
The grounds on which General Buhari is being promoted as the alternative choice are not only shaky, but pitifully naive.  History matters. Records are not kept simply to assist the weakness of memory, but to operate as guides to the future. Of course, we know that human beings change. What the claims of personality change or transformation impose on us is a rigorous inspection of the evidence, not wishful speculation or behind-the-scenes assurances. Public offence, crimes against a polity, must be answered in the public space, not in caucuses of bargaining.
In Buhari, we have been offered no evidence of the sheerest prospect of change. On the contrary, all evident suggests that this is one individual who remains convinced that this is one ex-ruler that the nation cannot call to order.
Buhari – need one remind anyone - was one of the generals who treated a Commission of Enquiry, the Oputa Panel, with unconcealed disdain. Like Babangida and Abdusalami, he refused to put in appearance even though complaints that were tabled against him involved a career of gross abuses of power and blatant assault on the fundamental human rights of the Nigerian citizenry.
Prominent against these charges was an act that amounted to nothing less than judicial murder, the execution of a citizen under a retroactive decree. Does Decree 20 ring a bell? If not, then, perhaps the names of three youths - Lawal  Ojuolape (30), Bernard Ogedengbe (29) and Bartholomew Owoh (26) do. To put it quite plainly, one of those three – Ogedengbe - was executed for a crime that did not carry a capital forfeit at the time it was committed.
This was an unconscionable crime, carried out in defiance of the pleas and protests of nearly every sector of the Nigerian and international community – religious, civil rights, political, trade unions etc. Buhari and his sidekick and his partner-in-crime, Tunde Idiagbon persisted in this inhuman act for one reason and one reason only: to place Nigerians on notice that they were now under an iron, inflexible rule, under governance by fear.
The execution of that youthful innocent – for so he was, since the punishment did not exist at the time of commission - was nothing short of premeditated murder, for which the perpetrators should normally stand trial upon their loss of immunity. Are we truly expected to forget this violation of our entitlement to security as provided under existing laws? And even if our sensibilities have become blunted by succeeding seasons of cruelty and brutality, if power itself had so coarsened the sensibilities also of rulers and corrupted their judgment, what should one rightly expect after they have been rescued from the snare of power” At the very least, a revaluation, leading hopefully to remorse, and its expression to a wronged society.
At the very least, such a revaluation should engender reticence, silence.  In the case of Buhari, it was the opposite. Since leaving office he has declared in the most categorical terms that he had no regrets over this murder and would do so again.
Human life is inviolate. The right to life is the uniquely fundamental right on which all other rights are based. The crime that General Buhari committed against the entire nation went further however, inconceivable as it might first appear.
That crime is one of the most profound negations of civic being.  Not content with hammering down the freedom of expression in general terms, Buhari specifically forbade all public discussion of a return to civilian, democratic rule. Let us constantly applaud our media – those battle scarred professionals did not completely knuckle down.
They resorted to cartoons and oblique, elliptical references to sustain the people’s campaign for a time-table to democratic rule. Overt agitation for a democratic time table however remained rigorously suppressed – military dictatorship, and a specifically incorporated in Buhari and Idiagbon was here to stay. To deprive a people of volition in their own political direction is to turn a nation into a colony of slaves. Buhari enslaved the nation.
He gloated and gloried in a master-slave relation to the millions of its inhabitants. It is astonishing to find that the same former slaves, now free of their chains, should clamour to be ruled by one who not only turned their nation into a slave plantation, but forbade them any discussion of their condition.
So Tai Solarin is already forgotten? Tai who stood at street corners, fearlessly distributing leaflets that took up the gauntlet where the media had dropped it. Tai who was incarcerated by that regime and denied even the medication for his asthmatic condition? Tai did not ask to be sent for treatment overseas; all he asked was his traditional medicine that had proved so effective after years of struggle with asthma!
Nor must we omit the manner of Buhari coming to power and the pattern of his ‘corrective’ rule. Shagari’s NPN had already run out of steam and was near universally detested – except of course by the handful that still benefited from that regime of profligacy and rabid fascism. Responsibility for the national condition lay squarely at the door of the ruling party, obviously, but against whom was Buhari’s coup staged? Judging by the conduct of that regime, it was not against Shagari’s government but against the opposition. The head of government, on whom primary responsibility lay, was Shehu Shagari. Yet that individual was kept in cozy house detention in Ikoyi while his powerless deputy, Alex Ekwueme, was locked up in Kiri-kiri prisons. Such was the Buhari notion of equitable apportionment of guilt and/or responsibility.
And then the cascade of escapes of the wanted, and culpable politicians. Manhunts across the length and breadth of the nation, roadblocks everywhere and borders tight as steel zip locks. Lo and behold, the chairman of the party, Chief Akinloye, strolled out coolly across the border. Richard Akinjide, Legal Protector of the ruling party, slipped out with equal ease. The Rice Minister, Umaru Dikko, who declared that Nigerians were yet to eat from dustbins - escaped through the same airtight dragnet.
The clumsy attempt to crate him home was punishment for his ingratitude, since he went berserk when, after waiting in vain, he concluded that the coup had not been staged, after all, for the immediate consolidation of the party of extreme right-wing vultures, but for the military hyenas.
The case of the overbearing Secretary-General of the party, Uba Ahmed, was even more noxious. Uba Ahmed was out of the country at the time. Despite the closure of the Nigerian airspace, he compelled the pilot of his plane to demand special landing permission, since his passenger load included the almighty Uba Ahmed.
Of course, he had not known of the change in his status since he was airborne.  The delighted airport commandant, realizing that he had a much valued fish swimming willingly into a waiting net, approved the request. Uba Ahmed disembarked into the arms of a military guard and was promptly clamped in detention.
Incredibly, he vanished a few days after and reappeared in safety overseas. Those whose memories have become calcified should explore the media coverage of that saga. Buhari was asked to explain the vanished act of this much prized quarry and his response was one of the most arrogant levity. Coming from one who had shot his way into power on the slogan of ‘dis’pline’, it was nothing short of impudent.
Shall we revisit the tragicomic series of trials that landed several politicians several lifetimes in prison? Recall, if you please, the ‘judicial’ processes undergone by the septuagenarian Chief Adekunle Ajasin.  He was arraigned and tried before Buhari’s punitive tribunal but acquitted. Dissatisfied, Buhari ordered his re-trial.
Again, the Tribunal could not find this man guilty of a single crime, so once again he was returned for trial, only to be acquitted of all charges of corruption or abuse of office. Was Chief Ajasin thereby released? No! He was ordered detained indefinitely, simply for the crime of winning an election and refusing to knuckle under Shagari’s reign of terror.
The conduct of the Buhari regime after his coup was not merely one of double, triple, multiple standards but a cynical travesty of justice. Audu Ogbeh, currently chairman of the Action Congress was one of the few figures of rectitude within the NPN. Just as he has done in recent times with the PDP, he played the role of an internal critic and reformer, warning, dissenting, and setting an example of probity within his ministry. For that crime he spent months in unjust incarceration. Guilty by association? Well, if that was the
motivating
yardstick of the administration of the Buhari justice, then it was most selectively applied.  The utmost severity of the Buhari-Idiagbon justice was especially reserved either for the opposition in general, or for those within the ruling party who had showed the sheerest sense of responsibility and patriotism.
Shall I remind this nation of Buhari’s deliberate humiliating treatment of the Emir of Kano and the Oni of Ife over their visit to the state of Israel? I hold no brief for traditional rulers and their relationship with governments, but insist on regarding them as entitled to all the rights, privileges and responsibilities of any Nigerian citizen. This royal duo went to Israel on their private steam and private business.
Simply because the Buhari regime was pursuing some antagonistic foreign policy towards Israel, a policy of which these traditional rulers were not a part, they were subjected on their return to a treatment that could only be described as a head masterly chastisement of errant pupils. Since when, may one ask, did a free citizen of the Nigerian nation require the permission of a head of state to visit a foreign nation that was willing to offer that tourist a visa?
One is only too aware that some Nigerians love to point to Buhari’s agenda of discipline as the shining jewel in his scrap-iron crown. To inculcate discipline however, one must lead by example, obeying laws set down as guides to public probity. Example speaks louder than declarations, and rulers cannot exempt themselves from the disciplinary strictures imposed on the overall polity, especially on any issue that seeks to establish a policy for public well-being.
The story of the thirty something suitcases – it would appear that they were even closer to fifty - found unavoidable mention in my recent memoirs, YOU MUST SET FORTH AT DOWN, written long before Buhari became spoken of as a credible candidate.  For the exercise of a changeover of the national currency, the Nigerian borders – air, sea and land – had been shut tight. Nothing was supposed to move in or out, not even cattle egrets.
Yet a prominent camel was allowed through that needle’s eye. Not only did Buhari dispatch his aide-de-camp, Jokolo – later to become an emir -  to facilitate the entry of those cases, he ordered the redeployment – as I later discovered - of the Customs Officer who stood firmly against the entry of the contravening baggage.
That officer, the incumbent Vice-president is now a rival candidate to Buhari, but has somehow, in the meantime, earned a reputation that totally contradicts his conduct at the time.  Wherever the truth lies, it does not redound to the credibility of the dictator of that time, General Buhari whose word was law, but whose allegiances were clearly negotiable.

Olusegun Obasanjo

‘Chibok Girls will never be rescued’, Ex-President says

Obasanjo also spoke about his book saying that everything he has written about President Goodluck Jonathan, he has also said to him face-to-face.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has again criticized President Goodluck Jonathan saying that because of his inaction, the Chibok Girls will never be rescued.
Obasanjo also spoke about his book saying that everything he has written about Jonathan, he has also said to him face-to-face.
The former President stated this and more during an interview with Rosie Collyer of Radio France Internationale (RFI)
Excerpts below:
RC: Why have you chosen to publish your autobiography now, when Nigeria is politically charged ahead of February's general election?
OO: You used the word politically charged. There is no time Nigeria is not politically charged. One thing one can say about Nigeria is, since independence we have had some high ebbs or low ebbs but Nigeria has been very, very politically active. So the question of which is the opportune time or auspicious time for a book to be published, it is entirely up to the publisher and of course the reading public.
I completed writing the book, which took me about 18 months, about four months ago and I gave it to the publisher. And the publisher decided that after reading the book that he would like to publish it before the elections.
RC: Who is Buruji Kashamu and why do you mention him in your autobiography?
OO: He is someone who has been indicted in America […] And for a political party and for the president to be hobnobbing with him I believe leaves much to be desired, and I said that [in my autobiography].
RC: You are apparently critical of President Goodluck Jonathan in your autobiography. Why?
OO: Whatever I have said in my book, I have said it to President Jonathan one-on-one. I have said it in public statements that I have made over the past two or three years. So there is nothing in my book that is new that I have said about President Jonathan.
RC: One area where you have criticised President Jonathan is his handling of the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls. What advice did you give the president?
OO: It is unfortunate. What I have said to Jonathan before and what I have said also in my letter - and I have said it several times - is that, once active and concrete action was not taken within 48 hours, a period of 72 hours was already too late. We will never be able to get those girls again. And the story of those girls will go on for the next 30 years. Some of them will come out when they are adults or they will be sent back when they are pregnant by those who have captured them. If anyone is thinking of being able to get those girls released intact, he must be day dreaming.
RC: Your autobiography is called My Watch in reference to your presidencies. What were you most proud of during your time as president?
OO: Well what was I proud of, is when I came in [as president] many people thought that I would be the last president of Nigeria, because after me Nigeria will be no more. I was proud that I was not the last president of Nigeria because after me there have been two presidents and there will always be presidents of Nigeria and Nigeria will continue to exist.
And then, of course, we fought corruption.
RC: Can you give some examples of corrupt people who faced justice?
OO: Oh yes, we took an inspector general of police to court. We took the president of the Senate to court. We took my minister for secondary schools and my minister of internal affairs to court. We took a few permanent secretaries to court. And we took a few governors to court.
And then of course we recovered well over 1.25 billion dollars from the Abacha family.
RC: Could you have done more to fight corruption?
OO: No, I did all that could be done. Fighting corruption is not a one-day affair or a one-night affair, it must be continuous.
